How We Started
Trevor Weflen has always had a love of classic cars, custom cars and hotrods. So it was no surprise he went on to own a custom automotive upholstery shop, custom motorcycle parts business and in 1978, a full-service gas station in Saskatoon, which became the first location of Great Canadian Oil Change.
Boom in BC
By 1980, he had a second locale, the first ever drive-thru Great Canadian Oil Change. Fast forward to 1990 when the first franchise location is built in east Saskatoon. It’s a hit and soon enough, franchises are popping up around BC at places like Vernon, Coquitlam, Kamloops and Chilliwack.
An international addition
With BC well underway, in 1994 a friend notices and suggests taking the concept across the ocean to Nassau in the Bahamas. After one phone call, the Great Bahamian Oil Change is born.
By 2000, Great Canadian Oil Change is steadily growing across Canada with an average of 3-6 stores being added each year, and by 2004 there are over 35 GCOC franchises in the chain.
By 2007, GCOC becomes national. New stores open across most of Canada, including BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario. Today, there are over 70 GCOC stores with no sign of slowing.
Trevor takes great pride in the meticulous level of customer service and attention every franchise has been trained to deliver. It’s the key to success for Great Canadian Oil Change across the country.
GCOC is also a sponsor of World Vision Canada.
